Rj Nitin must have never imagined that one of his many PJ’s on his Red FM show, Khurafati Nitin would cause riots in West Bengal. Ok so you all are interested in listening to the so called PJ? Then here it is : “shopkeepers will now have to make their own security arrangements as Gorkhas have taken to singing.” The reference being made to Indian Idol 3, Prashant Tamang.
Like me many of you might pull your hair off at the silly material passed off as jokes by these FM channels. But this so called joke, was not taken well by the fans of Indian Idol Prashant Tamang, leading to violence and strikes in the serene Darjeeling.
Now what surprises me is that “People In India Have Way Too Much Time To Waste”. First of all they have so much leisure time to listen to a rather stupid show on FM, then they have the time to protest and carry of dharnas against stupid jokes carried on that stupid show. And also get involved in fights for a man, who oblivious to all this is busy relishing his new found success.
First of all I do not feel there was anything racist about that PJ, cracked by RJ Nitin. If this joke is a racist attack, then what about the Santa Banta joke fodder that we have been feeding upon? Do those jokes mean, all the Sardar’s all over start engaging in fights and create widespread violence? Ridiculous!!!

Rj Nitin : Joke Bhaari Pad Gaya Bidu
If any of the protestor’s, chance upon reading this article then please do answer this question, that has been tormenting me for quite a while. RJ Nitin made the so called racist joke from Red FM, Delhi. Then what is the point of burning down vehicles, creating wide spread havoc, declaring bandhs and injuring innocent people in West Bengal? How does doing all this in West Bengal have any effect on RJ Nitin who is busy tormenting Delhites with his jokes? Ridiculous!!!
So if all you protestors out there, still have time on hand after dealing with such important issues like racist jokes, then please do use that time for protesting against lesser important activities like corruption, flesh trade, child exploitation, etc.

AMIT,
YOU ARE WRONG IN LABELING THIS AS AN OVER-REACTION, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT ALL RJ NITIN HAS SAID. READ THE FOLLOWING ARTICLES AND THEN YOU SHALL KNOW. IT IS NOT ABOUT TIME-WASTE AND PEOPLE BEING LOSERS – IT IS ABOUT ABUSE OF MEDIA. RADIO LICENSES ARE NOT GIVEN OUT FOR PEOPLE TO CALL OTHER COMMUNITIES NAMES. PEOPLE EMPLOYED IN SUCH INDUSTRIES ARE MEANT TO BE MATURE AND LEVEL-HEADED AND NOT IMMATURE LIKE THIS FAT RUMP RADIO JOKER!

This part I will have to agree. But then if they have even watched and voted on the reality show spending money for the sms from their pocket it does tell us one thing. The people have greater patience to sit through watching and also taking sides between 2 judges slugging it out on television. It makes Paris Hilton’s The simple Life a notch better

It wasn’t a RACIST joke. It was more of an ethnic slur. Until you have experienced what that feels like it’s probably best to keep silent and blog on another issue.

Hello i was just flipping over the web pages and happened to drop by. well buddy this is not a joke anymore. do you like it when indians are called shit coloured people smelling of curry. din’t you make that noise when shilpa was racially abused on big brother. why did you waste your time over a useless program or for that matter sanjay malakar on american idol. jade goody said things about indians because it was normal for her just the way people like you think calling a nepali a chowkidar is. but you know what it feels like when you are at the receiving end. by the way did you read about some NRIs being bashed up in Germany a few weeks ago. i believe you din’t and even if you did it does not matter to you. regarding the incident in siliguri thats something which snowballed when a situation got out of hand…as it so often happens in india. and i am an indian for that matter and it hurts me to see the apathy in people like you.

Hi all. I know this joke was not in the right sense. But does that mean we people get on the streets and start bringing down life to a halt. Create bandhs , burn vehicles, wil that lead to an end of these jokes and racials slurs if you may call them so. Remeber, an eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind.
Infact if we just turn a blind eye to these petty issues and concentrate on reducing flesh trade, child exploitation, and other problems of global nature, then only will we see a more prosperous India.

I agree that the solution to this problem is not the wanton destruction of property and social agitation. However, you have to understand that such comments deeply hurt people’s sentiments and it naturally arouses a certain level of passion. Whenever, the topic is about race, religion, ethnicity people get emotional and you have to except tempers to flare. It’s human!
Also keep in mind that RJ Nitin comments brings forth a greater social issue. Indians of Nepali origins have traditionally been stigmatized, belittled and stereotyped. They are never appreciated for their contribution to Indian society. For example is RJ Nitin aware of how many Gurkha soldiers are guarding the Indian border? Or for that matter why is it that so many Indian houses and businesses choose Gurkahs as security guards in the first place? No mention is ever made of their honesty and bravery. In fact the word “Badhur” (which means brave) now carries a very demeaning connotation in Indian society. Finally the protest isn’t about one isolated incident. RJ Nitin was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

I reached this site through google. I thank Amit for his concern shown on this issue.
For all those who have posted their opposed views here, you all got to hear this what my family has faced due to the violent protests.
My brother had taken my 8 year old daughter to his shop the day this incident happened. An angry mob protesting against comments made by RJ Nitin suddenly started vandalising shops in that area. My 8 year old daugther got injured, my brother’s shop was also vandalised and he got his hand fractured in an attempt to stop the people breaking into his shop.
I want to ask all u guys who have opposed amit in this post…. are you going to put things into place for my family? The emotional distress, financial problems that we had to face… can you guys remunerate us with that?
I have nothing to do with RJ Nitin and his personal opinions that he is airing to anybody under the sun… i have nothing to do with prashant or indian idol… then why should my family face this?

I empathise with your problems, Mr. Bose. Hope your daughter is well now.
Mr. Bose’s example is exactly what I was trying to showcase. Why should innocent people face the brunt of an RJ’s comments. Get a life you guys and don’t wate your time and other people’s money with such lame protests.

I think the whole matter has been exaggerated. The Nepalese have taken undue advantage of the statement made. In any case they do not like Indians-so what the heck? Two thirds of their economy run on India, most of their poor people work here. Most of them have setteled in India and, yes, we respect the Gurkhs Rifles because of whom there is still respect for Nepalese.
Indians at the most crack jokes on them the same way as we crack jokes on Sardars, Bengalis, Madrasis, etc.as a part of the Indian mainstream. We don’t hate them. But these people hate us from the core of their hearts which was obvious in the way they expressed their feelings!
If they don’t like India it is no point living & working here. They are free to move out & close the borders. No problem! Let the Chinese take them over & kick them the way they are doing in Tibet! And believe me, they wouldn’t dare to even mew in front of the Chinese!

Hi Rajesh,
Do these jokes make you laugh eh? Certainly I can not find anything funny. And the reason is not because you are making fun of Hindu’s , but solely due to the fact that these jokes do not find any resemblance to any characteristic features/identities of Hindu’s. Hence evoking practically, no humor at all.
